Southern Workshop on Granular Materials 2009 - SWGM09 will gather together worldwide experts.

From Nov 30 to Dec 4  the city of Viña del Mar, Chile, will host the third version of the Southern Workshop on Granular Materials- SWGM09, organized by CIMAT, the Physics Department of the Universidad de Chile, the Physics Department of the University of Bio-Bio, and the Physics Department of the Universidad de Santiago.

 

Previous Southern Workshop on Granular Materials has been held in 2003 and 2006 with great success, gathering worldwide researches and students interested in this area. Granular Materials at CIMAT is a main topic of research developed by Complex Materials group and Laboratory of Matter far from Equilibrium. 

 

The challenges that Granular Materials present require the combined capacity and creativity of scientists and engineers working in different areas and inevitably bearing different points of view. The aim of the present Workshop is to create the right environment for experts from the region and the rest of the world to present their results and discuss those of others.

 

Scientific Committee

 

The scientific committee is componed by Igon Aranson from Argonne Nacional Laboratory (USA); J.Javier Brey, from Universidad de Sevilla (Spain); Eric Clement, ESPCI (France); Isaac Goldhirsch, from Tel-Aviv University (Israel); James T. Jenkins, from Cornell University (USA); Stefan Luding, from University of Twente (Holland); Narayanan Menon, from University of Massachussets (USA); and Olivier Pouliquen, from Ecole Polytechnique Universitaire de Marseille (France).

 

The local organizer committee is conformed by por Marcel Clerc, Patricio Cordero, Nicolás Mujica y Rodrigo Soto, de la Universidad de Chile; Eugenio Hamm, Francisco Melo y Francisco Vivanco, de la Universidad de Santiago; y Dino Risso, de la Universidad del Bío Bío.

 

50 specialists from different universities have already confirmed its assistance and a large number of students.
