CIMAT CELEBRATE 10 YEARS

This month, CIMAT celebrates its 10th anniversary. The Center commemorates a fruitful and solid trajectory supported by the recognition of the national and international scientific community. The Center has consolidated its leadership position in the expertise and excellence on the materials science in order to generate that Chile needs for a competitive economy and sustainable development.

To celebrate a decade of work, on October 14 CIMAT will host a seminar at the Facultad de Ciencias Físicas y Matemáticas of the Universidad de Chile, with the participation as guest speaker, professor Guillermo Solorzano from Universidad Católica de Rio de Janiero. This event is convoked by Francisco Brieva, the Dean of the Facultad de Ciencias Física y Matemáticas and Fernando Lund, director of CIMAT.

In this event, CIMAT will give to the assistants a report that gathers a decade of scientific research on the areas of Bio-related Materials, Mechanics of Complex Materials and Catalytic and Polymeric Materials, that bring together scientist from Universidad de Chile, Universidad de Santiago y Pontificia Universidad Católica y Universiddad del Bío Bío.

Currently, CIMAT congregates more than 30 investigators with PhD degree, 30 postdoctal students, 20 undergraduate students and 15 internship students. Its work has also focused on the collaboration with firms and institutions, with the purpose to foster technology transfer activities. In particular, the Center strategy to contribute to local industrial growth and sustainability is demonstrated by specific R+D+I projects aimed to new applications for copper and molybdenum.
